The Bulls won’t waste energy with an official complaint about the referee’s performance in the 23-20 defeat against the Brumbies.
The Brumbies were awarded a match-winning 81st minute penalty for an infringement at the breakdown when the penalty should have gone the Bulls way for a number of Brumbies infringements.
Brumbies scrumhalf Nick White went off his feet in trying to win the ball but the Bulls were pinned for holding on in the tackle. Even before that the Brumbies were offside.
‘It was clearly offside, definitely, we just looked at it,’ said Bulls coach Frans Ludeke.
‘I’ve just seen those guys going before the ball is out, to charge Morné [Steyn] down, they knew Morné was going to kick. But you know that’s the game, it would have given us another point, but that’s life.
‘We don’t want to give it energy, the whole season is ahead of us, it was a great effort and we’re going to go with that.’
Bulls captain Pierre Spies agreed and remained diplomatic despite his obvious frustration.
Spies said it was important the Bulls regrouped and got back to winning once in Pretoria.
