Brendan McKibbin kicked the Waratahs to a 23-19 win against the Force in Sydney.
The hosts scored just one try through Adam Ashley-Cooper and relied on McKibbin’s six penalties to fashion an ugly win.
There has been less than five points in the winning margin between the two teams in the last eight match-ups and Sunday’s was as close. In fact the last time they met in Perth the Waratahs won 23-18. On Sunday it was by one more point.
South African flyhalf Sias Ebersohn kicked five from six but the Force only had an Alfie Mafi try to show for the 62 percent match possession.
The Tahs, despite limited possession, led 23-9 going into the final quarter, but then the Force struck through Mafi and the last 10 minutes was all about the home team defending a four point lead.
