Ioane returns for Reds
Digby Ioane is back for the Reds after his knee injury ruled him out for the last few weeks.
Ioane is the only change to the Reds that beat the Chiefs last weekend. Ioane replaces Dom Shipperley after being expected to replace Rod Davies, but Davies’ two tries against the Chiefs has seen him retain a spot in the team, even though he shifts to the opposite wing.
The Reds take on the Brumbies in what is an Australian Conference topping battle which is sure to go some way in determining the top finishing Australian side.
Reds: 15 Jono Lance, 14 Rod Davies, 13 Anthony Faingaa, 12 Ben Tapuai, 11 Digby Ioane, 10 Quade Cooper, 9 Will Genia, 8 Jake Schatz, 7 Liam Gill, 6 Eddie Quirk, 5 James Horwill (c), 4 Rob Simmons, 3 James Slipper, 2 James Hanson, 1 Greg Holmes. Substitutes: 16 Saia Faingaa, 17 Ben Daley, 18 Ed O’Donoghue, 19 Jarrad Butler, 20 Ben Lucas, 21 Chris Feauai-Sautia, 22 Dom Shipperley.
Smith stays put
George Smith will stay with the Brumbies until the end of the Super Rugby season, after the Suntory have allowed him to extend his loan deal.
Suntory gave Smith the all-clear to stay with the Brumbies until their participation in the 2013 Super Rugby competition comes to an end.
The bigger news is that Smith now becomes eligible to represent the Wallabies against the British & Irish Lions. This is a great coup for both the Brumbies and the Wallabies after they lost the services of David Pocock for the remainder of the season.
Smith, in his time with the Brumbies, has shown that he is still in peak physical condition and will fit into any international team, especially with the Wallabies following the Pocock injury.
