Kings rotate for Cheetahs

Luke Watson will play off the bench against the Cheetahs.

Watson, who captained the Kings in their tournament opener against the Force, hurt his larynx 35 minutes into the match, and missed six weeks of rugby. He returned a fortnight ago in the EP Kings Vodacom Cup win against South Western Districts.

He then started for the Kings against the Bulls and struggled with match fitness. He was substituted after 45 minutes. Jacques Engelbrecht, who has played most of the tournament at No 8, replaced him but also played his worst game of the season.

Kings Director of Rugby Alan Solomons said Watson was always going to be nurtured back through a start at home and off the bench against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

‘There seems to be misinterpretation of the situation. We reviewed the situation after the game and we believe that his reintegration into Super Rugby is best suited playing of the bench for the Cheetahs match.’ misinterpreted the media conference comments but management clarified the situation with Watson and also Murray, whose start from the bench is part of a rotation.

The Kings will be captained by former Cheetah and Sharks midfielder Andries Strauss.
