Rebels snatch Timani

Loose forward Lopeti Timani has confirmed a move from the Waratahs to the Rebels for the 2014 Super Rugby season.

Lopeti is brother to the Wallaby Sitaleki Timani, and has similar ambitions to represent Australia, and feels his best chance of achieving that is to move to the Rebels.

Timani has had limited game time with the Waratahs, whose loose trio includes the in form Michael Hooper, opting for more game time with the Melbourne based franchise.

Mafi shown the door

Alfie Mafi has been released from his Force contract with immediate effect as a result of discipline issues.

Mafi, who has already signed to continue his playing career in Japan, was released early following ‘a number of infringements of team values and disciplinary indiscretions’. Mafi was already not available for selection to face the Brumbies last weekend as a result of a breach of internal standards.

Mafi will join up with the Honda Heat team as they prepare for their season to start in August.
