A moment of stupidity cost the Highlanders victory against the Force in Perth.
The Force won 19-18 thanks to a 78th minute penalty after Highlanders replacement wing Tino Nemani unnecessarily and recklessly put in a late hit. The heartbreak for the visitors is that the moment of madness came a minute after the Highlanders had led for the first time in the match.
Colin Slade kicked a 51 metre penalty in the 77th minute that seemed to be the match winner but Nemani’s crazy challenge handed the win to the Force.
The final five minutes of drama masked an ordinary game played by the two league basement dwellers. Both teams played with desperation but also with an obvious lack of belief and with that little innovation.
It was only the second time in the Force’s history that they have kept the opposition tryless in Perth.
Force – Tries: Sias Ebersohn. Conversion: Jayden Hayward. Penalty: Hayward (4).
