Conrad Smith has confirmed that he will take a sabbatical from rugby. He will miss the All Blacks November tour to the United Kingdom and France.
Smith is available for the home series against the French, after recovering from a concussion sustained three weeks ago. He will also be available for the Rugby Championship starting later in the year.
Smith discussed the sabbatical with All Blacks coach Steve Hansen, who said that he was happy with the decision. Hansen went on to say that he prefers a sabbatical to Smith retiring.
Smith made his debut against Italy in 2004. He has played 66 times for the All Blacks and been on the winning side 59 times. He has won several Tri Nations, Bledisloe Cup and Rugby Championships as well as the 2011 World Cup.
