Olivier and du Plessis sign with French club Montpellier.
South Africa has two less centres after Montpellier confirmed the signature of both Wynand Olivier and JP du Plessis.
Olivier’s move was expected, following his stint in Japan last year, while the move of young du Plessis comes as a bit of a shock.
Olivier has fallen out of favour at the Bulls, following the rise of youngsters Francois Venter and Jan Serfontein, in those two they have ample cover for when the Springbok leaves.
For du Plessis, it was a case of impatience as he continues to search for first team rugby. Following his return from Australia, where he dabbled in Rugby League, he has only played a handful of games for Western Province Currie Cup side. Although he has been touted for big things, he is yet to make an impact in the Cape.
This has prompted the youngster to look into Europe, where he has signed a three year contract. The length of the contract indicates that he is not likely to return to South Africa and that he would be looking at qualifying for French residency.
