The Stormers denied the Kings a losing bonus point in winning 19-11 at Newlands.
The Cape-based franchise led 6-3 at halftime in a game that offered nothing on attack and plenty by way of defensive effort.
The Kings were unfortunate not to get at least one league point for their performance and could have kicked for goal with a minute to go to get within a losing seven point margin.
Kings captain Andries Strauss instead opted for a lineout but the Stormers defence wasn’t to be beaten for a second time.
Both sides scored a try each, with both coming from lineout mauls.
Deon Fourie scored for the Stormers in the 65th minute and Kings loose-forward Wimpie van der Walt replied for the visitors 10 minutes later.
The Stormers boast the best defence in the competition and also the worst attack and that didn’t change at Newlands.
The weather conditions were difficult and neither side looked capable of striking with ball in hand.
The Stormers remain 11th on the table and the Kings are in 14th place, two league points ahead of the Highlanders.
