Meyer: ‘Saders or ‘Tahs

Bulls coach Heyneke Meyer has predicted a repeat of last years’ Super 12 final to decide who will be the inaugural Vodacom Super 14 champions this year.

Speaking after his team was smashed by the Crusaders at Loftus Versfeld, Meyer said it would come down to either the five-times New Zealand champs or the ‘Tahs.

“Home ground advantage is crucial. But in my mind it has to be one of the Crusaders or Waratahs this year,” said Meyer. “The bounce of the ball, a referee decision, anything. It’s really close to call. But they are definitely a cut above.”

The Waratahs and Crusaders have proved to be the form teams throughout the competition this year although both have experienced slight wobbles in recent weeks.

The Crusaders tackle the Brumbies in the first match of the final round in Christchurch and victory will guarantee them top spot on the log and a home semi-final and final if they go that far. Their likely semi opponents will be the Brumbies who will probably just stay in New Zealand for the week.

The Waratahs, meanwhile, clash in the most intriguing match-up of round 14 against the Hurricanes in Sydney. The winner of that match will earn a home semi-final and a good psychological boost ahead of another possible rematch a week later.
