Robinson applauds Bok defence

England coach Andy Robinson said South Africa’s aggression in the tackle had been decisive in his team’s 25-14 defeat at Twickenham.

Robinson is sure to be sacked after England lost for the eighth time in nine starts, but the England coach did applaud the Boks’ one on one tackling and the performance of the halfbacks.

He told the media that the Boks had shown good shape in their defensive system and that the Bok backs had shown good attacking skill. But, more than anything, he felt the Boks defence was the key to their victory.

Robinson also praised Ricky Januarie and Andre Pretorius for playing intelligent rugby and for controlling the last quarter of the game. Bok coach Jake White agreed that his halfbacks had been influential, adding that Januarie was the best player on the field in the last 10 minutes.

Robinson was defiant when questioned about his future. He said he would not walk away and blamed individual mistakes on England’s defeat.

But it no longer is whether Robinsons wants to stay or go, his bosses have already decided he will go. And even victory against the Boks would not have saved him.
