Jones’ World Cup fears allayed

Wales’ World Cup campaign got a boost after it was revealed that Stephen Jones will not need groin surgery.

The flyhalf suffered a partial tear to a groin tendon and it was feared that he would miss the tournament on France if he had undergone surgery.

Jones will miss the warm-up Tests against England, Argentina and France while he recovers, but Wales coach Gareth Jenkins now expects him to play a full part in the tournament.

“This is magnificent news for us,” Jenkins said. “Stephen is very much the lifeblood of this squad.

“He is a key leader and vital to us, not just because of his rugby experience and what he offers on the pitch, but because of the impact he makes on the squad throughout our time together.”
