Amla and Prince shine

Hashim Amla and Ashwell Prince took control on day one of the Protea’s warm-up match at Uxbridge

Amla and Prince were the two stars of day one, plundering the Middlesex bowlers and helping the Protea’s to 339/4 at the close of play.

Amla’s was the stand out performance of the day as he hit 22 four’s and 3 six’s on his way to 161.

South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first and Graeme Smith and Amla took the Protea’s to 125/1 at lunch – the only casualty being Neil McKenzie for just 11.

Shortly after lunch, Middlesex bowler Alan Richardson took the wicket of Smith for 35 and in his next over sent Kallis packing, for just 5 runs.

This brought Prince to the crease and he and Amla quickly set about punishing the Middlesex bowling attack.

Amla finally fell to the bowling of Daniel Evens and Prince, who ended on 104 not out, was joined by AB De Villiers to see out the remainder of the days overs.
