Sharks to shut out Gits

John Plumtree says the Sharks’ defence will need to sharpen if they’re to repel the mercurial Matt Giteau in Perth.

Giteau has kept a disjointed Force team together this season, and his ability to spark a linebreak from a standing start has left even the better defensive lines bamboozled. After a shocking display in Brisbane, the Sharks’ defence will be under pressure.

‘Obviously the Western Force attack revolves hugely around Giteau,’ Plumtree told the Daily News. ‘I’m sure he’s licking his lips to get at us, especially after our poor defensive performance at the weekend.

‘I think he’s the best attacking No 10 in world rugby and so it will be a real challenge for us on defence. We’ll need to be on the money in that area of our game.’

The Sharks are without flyhalf Ruan Pienaar who has returned home after picking up an injury against the Reds. Frans Steyn will play at 10, and kicking consultant Andrew Johns has been working with the Springbok after his howler at Suncorp Stadium.
