Griquas tame Lions

Griquas beat the Lions 23-19 in a tense encounter in Johannesburg on Friday evening.

Griquas built up enough of a lead in the first half and then produced an inspired defensive effort in the second half to hold on for the victory.

The visitors led 20-7 at half-time and the Lions launched a second-half come back but ultimately fell just short as the men from Kimberley extended their lead at the top of the Currie Cup table.

Flyhalf Naas Olivier and Barry Geel grabbed tries for Griquas in the first half while Alwyn Hollenbach scored the Lions only try.
