Province pummel Leopards

Skipper Luke Watson bagged a hat-trick as Western Province thumped the Leopards 48-7 at Newlands.

Province went in at half time with a 15-0 lead and put their foot down in the second stanza running in five tries to seal a comprehensive bonus-point victory.

Skipper Watson and flyhalf Willem de Waal were the stars for the hosts as Watson crossed the chalk on three occasions while De Waal kicked five successful conversions in a personal haul of 18 points.

Province would have been hoping for a shut-out win, but that went out the window with 13 minutes left when centre Deon van Rensburg scored a consolation try for the Leopards.

The win moves Western Province up to second, while the Leopards remain rooted the foot of the table.
