Seven-try win sees Kings in pole

A 56-5 bonus-point win against Border has allowed the EP Kings to surpass the Griffons at the top of the Currie Cup First Division table.

The Kings dominated the forward exchanges, and used a wealth of possession to run in seven tries. Luke Watson and Wayne Heerden scored two tries apiece, while Wayne Stevens and SP Marais also crossed the tryline.

The result sees the Kings moving to the top of the First Division log. Both the Kings and Griffons have 19 log points, although the Kings have a superior points difference.

The Griffons edged Boland 23-20 in Wellington on Friday, fighting back from a 17-8 half-time deficit.

In Saturday’s matches, the Pumas beat the Valke 36-35 in an eight-try game, while the Leopards downed SWD 68-35. Leopards wing Allister Kettledas scored five tries while former Springbok flyhalf Andre Pretorius scored 26 points with the boot.
