WP crowned U16 kings

WP recorded a 10-7 comeback win over Free State in the U16 Grant Khomo Week unofficial final in Johannesburg on Thursday.

The Cape side, who downed hosts the Golden Lions 21-19 on Monday and the Blue Bulls 36-5 on Tuesday, scored a converted try and a penalty in the second half to edge Free State. Flank Michael Meyer crossed the chalk while fullback Tiaan Swanepoel added the conversion and a penalty.

Free State led 7-0 at half-time thanks to scrumhalf Charles Raath.

In other results on the final day, 2011 unofficial champions EP beat Boland 31-25 to retain an unbeaten run this year. The Golden Lions triumphed over the Blue Bulls 29-20, while KZN eased past the Leopards 29-11.
