It’s been reported that the Highlanders are attempting to sign former All Blacks lock Brad Thorn for the 2013 Super Rugby season.
Thorn is currently plying his trade in Japan with the Sanix Fukuoka Blues. His two-year contract with the club expires at the end of the Japanese season in February.
Highlanders head coach Jamie Joseph has been in talks with the 37-year–old recently.
If Thorn agrees a deal with the Otago franchise, he’ll follow the signing of All Blacks loosehead prop Tony Woodcock from the Blues. The Highlanders already boast the likes of hooker Andrew Hore and prop Jamie Mackintosh in their pack.
Thorn has enjoyed a successful career in rugby union and league, winning major titles in both codes. More recently, he won the World Cup with New Zealand and the European Cup with Leinster over the past year.
