Read set to return
Kieran Read could return to bolster the Crusaders ahead of the final weeks of Super Rugby action, before the International window.
The Crusaders face the Blues in a crunch match this weekend. The result could well determine who goes into the break in second spot on the New Zealand log, and in play-off contention. The Crusaders are just behind the Blues and win for them would elevate them into the top 6.
Whether Read returns straight into the starting line-up or via the bench, still remains to be seen.
Chiefs injury concerns worsen
The Chiefs already have a list of injuries amongst their backs to worry about, but news from the weekend makes things worse.
Gareth Anscombe, who was set to start the match, broke his toe, which rules him out for at least six weeks. Add injuries to Richard Kahui, Andrew Horrell and Tim Nanai-Williams and they are in clear shortage of players.
The Chiefs approached Munster back Casey Lualala as a short term loan replacement. While the move was given the go ahead by Munster boss Rob Penney, the New Zealand Rugby Union blocked the move. The Chiefs were told that ‘there were some rules around time frames’ that would rule out the loan.
