Bryan Habana got his 50th Test try and Bok coach Heyneke Meyer got a quality team performance in Pretoria.
Habana got two tries in the Boks bruising 56-23 win against Samoa. Francois Louw also got two tries in a man of the match performance but as a whole the Boks produced their best performance of 2013 to overwhelm the spirited and thuggish Samoans.
The visitors let themselves down with late tackles, high tackles and even the cowardly act of ball grabbing – and I am not talking about the rugby ball here.
Jean de Villiers’s leadership helped calm the situation but the Samoans did themselves – and their reputation – no favours.
Halfbacks Ruan Pienaar and Morne Steyn enjoyed a comfortable and influential evening and Willie le Roux at fullback, after an indifferent start, blossomed in the last hour of the match.
JJ Engelbrecht at outside centre continues to prosper in a Bok team that is playing with great balance and with wonderful attacking conviction.
