Aussies back Super Rugby conference split

The Australians will endorse a two-conference split that accommodates six South African teams.

SANZAR’s delegates will meet next week to discuss a competition expansion post the 2015 Super Rugby season.

Player welfare and the needs of South Africa and Argentina will be paramount to the discussions.

Australian rugby bosses, in discussion with the Australian media, have been vocal about supporting an expansion that splits the two conferences, with one made up by New Zealand and Australia and the other made up by South African and Argentina teams.

Among the proposals is the top eight in the combined table then go into the play-offs.

South African rugby bosses are also giving consideration to leaving Super Rugby and starting a competition that involves Argentina and possibly France.
