Demetri drops in for WP win

Replacement flyhalf Demetri Catrakilis kicked a late drop goal in Western Province’s 29-27 win against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

Catrakilis proved an unlikely hero as WP fought back from a 24-16 deficit going into the last 20 minutes to secure the win.

Province only scored two tries so for the eight successive match failed to score a four-try bonus point.

Springbok legend Schalk Burger made his return to rugby after an 18 month break because of injury and illness and played the last 20 minutes.

Free State Cheetahs – Tries: Hennie Daniller (2), Sarel Pretorius. Conversions: Riaan Smit (2), Elgar Watts. Penalties: Smit, Watts.
Western Province – Tries: Cheslin Kolbe, Michael Rhodes. Conversions: Kurt Coleman, Demetri Catrakilis. Penalties: Coleman (3), Catrakilis. Drop goal: Catrakilis.
