Keeping it in the family

There will be three sets of brothers in the All Blacks touring squad.

The selectors named five new caps in a squad of 36 to play Japan, France, England and Ireland.

Among them are loose-forward Luke Whitelock (younger brother of lock Sam) and flanker Ardi Savea (younger brother of wing Julian). They join the Franks brothers, Owen and Ben. The 20 year-old Savea will travel as an apprentice player.

The other three new caps are Counties and Blues winger Frank Halai and Crusaders duo Dominic Bird and Joe Moody.

Veteran hookers Andrew Hore and Keven Mealamu will also tour.

A group of 27 players will travel to Japan and nine players, who won’t be involved in the Japanese Test, including Richie McCaw and Kieran Read, will travel to Paris to start preparing for France.

Dan Carter, named as vice captain alongside Read, will probably captain the side against Japan to give him game time.
