WP give Lions a beating
Western Province added to the Lions Currie Cup woe, giving the visitors from Johannesburg a beating every bit as big as the tournament schedule.
DHL WP scored six tries and won 39-3 after leading 22-3 at halftime.
We are into round six of the Currie Cup, but it’s been a controversial schedule that saw some teams play three matches in eight days and saw Super Rugby finalists the Lions playing their first three matches while the Super Rugby play-offs were also being completed. The Lions, in winning just one from five matches, have suffered the most because of the schedule.
Just two Super Rugby regulars started against Western Province.
The hosts also had a difficult start to the Currie Cup campaign without their Super Rugby players but in the last two weeks they’ve had the benefit of selecting these players. And they’ve got results in beating the Bulls and Lions at home.
