Eddie’s England in final flourish to wallop Wallabies

Eddie Jones’s England produced a powerful finish to beat England 30-6 at Twickenham.

England flyhalf Owen Farrell kicked 10 points.

The scoreline doesn’t tell the story of the first 70 minutes but the game is played over 80 minutes and in the final 10 minutes there was only one team in this contest – and it was the home team.

England led 6-0 halftime and 13-6 on the hour when Australia had a try cancelled for obstruction. It proved to be the decisive play in a game because when that chance went, so did Australia’s chance of getting something from the game.

The very difficult wet playing conditions suited England more and the home team also played the conditions brilliantly in the final 10 minutes to score three tries in that period and turn a shaky 13-6 lead into a compelling 30-6 victory.

England, in scoring four tries to nil, beat Australia for a fifth successive time in what was a record winning margin.

(Eddie) Jones used his substitutes’ bench superbly and it proved telling in the final 10 minutes.

England, ranked second in the world, remain second after the win against third placed Australia.

It was also England’s 21st win in 22 Tests since Jones took charge post their dismal failure at the 2015 World Cup.
