Brumbies lock Carter agrees Ulster switch
Former Brumbies captain Sam Carter says the opportunity to join Ulster was “too good to turn down”.
Australia lock Sam Carter will leave the Brumbies to join Ulster at the end of the Super Rugby season.
Carter has played over 100 games for the Canberra-based franchise since making his debut in 2011 but will make the switch to Ulster after agreeing a two-year deal.
The 29-year-old former Brumbies captain has fallen out of favour with Michael Cheika since earning the last of his 16 Wallabies caps against Italy in 2017 and has opted to ply his trade in Europe.
Losing Carter will be a huge blow to the Brumbies, with Rory Arnold also set to depart for Top 14 side Toulouse at the end of the 2019 Super Rugby campaign.
Carter said: “I have loved my time at the Brumbies and have made many great memories that will live with me for the rest of my rugby career.
“The Brumbies are all I have known rugby-wise, so it was a difficult decision to make, but I feel the time is right for me and my wife, Maddie, to experience a new challenge and the chance to join Ulster was too good to turn down.
“I’d like to thank everyone connected with the club for their support over the years and especially the Brumbies fan base who have been exceptional throughout my time at the club.
“I am fully committed for the 2019 Super Rugby season and looking forward to playing my part to the full.”
