Marseille to host 2020 European rugby finals
Both the European Champions Cup and the European Challenge Cup finals will be played at Marseille’s Stade Velodrome in 2020.
Marseille’s Stade Velodrome will host the European Champions and Challenge Cup finals in 2019-20, European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) has announced.
With the two competitions launched for the new campaign on Monday, the location of next term’s finals was confirmed.
Marseille will play host, with both matches to be played at the Velodrome, home of the city’s Ligue 1 football team.
Jean-Claude Gaudin, the mayor of Marseille, said: “In selecting our city, EPCR has recognised a remarkable collective work on a successful bid project, worthy of the expectations of this major sporting event, which commands the attention and enthusiasm of the rugby world.
“Staging this top European club rugby weekend is further recognition for Marseille, now making us a member of an elite circle of sporting cities.”
This season’s finals are to be played at St James’ Park, Newcastle, while Leinster became European champions at Bilbao’s San Mames in May.
