No Super Sport return for Ashwin Willemse
SuperSport have confirmed that Ashwin Willemse will not be returning to air, as his contract with the company has expired.
It has now been over 3 months since the incident which saw Willemse walk off live TV, accusing fellow presenters Nick Mallett and Naas Botha of “undermining” and “patronising” him.
What ensued was a media field day, centered around the racial debate regarding the incident. Willemse had also referred to Mallett and Botha as “players from the apartheid era”.
The media storm saw all three presenters pulled off air and an internal inquiry conducted. Mallett in particular came under extreme social media scrutiny for allegedly speaking down on Willemse in the past.
Mallett and Botha then returned to studio, while Willemse and his legal team kept quiet.
Willemse then said that, following the inquiry, he would be elevating the matter to the Equality court. SuperSport however confirmed to Sport24 that they had received no word from the Equality court yet.
They are instead in communication with the Human Rights Commission under the instructions of advocate Advocate Vincent Maleka SC’s report following the inquiry.
