Pollard to join Montpellier, Steyn agrees Bulls return
Handre Pollard has agreed to join Top 14 heavyweights Montpellier and Morne Steyn will return to his homeland to replace the fly-half.
Morne Steyn will return to the Bulls after South Africa fly-half Handre Pollard agreed to join Montpellier.
Pollard, 25, is the latest Springbok to take up a lucrative deal in the French top flight.
Former South Africa playmaker Steyn, 34, is heading home to a franchise that he left six years ago for a spell with Stade Francais.
Bulls chief executive Alfons Meyer said: “Handre has been a true servant for us for six years.
“He has been an outstanding asset, not only to the teams he played for, but also our supporters, to whom he endeared himself from early on with his attitude towards the Bulls. He will be missed for sure, but we cannot fault his decision to continue his career in France. We wish him well.”
Steyn, the Bulls’ all-time leading points-scorer with 1,449 from 124 matches, will be back with his former employers for the 2020 Super Rugby season.
Meyer said: “It is great for us, he is a very experienced player who can still play at the highest levels. He knows the culture and passion of the Bulls as well as anyone and will no doubt contribute massively, not only on the field, but also off it.
“We are very pleased to have him back.”
