USA upset Scotland in Houston
The United States recorded their first Test match win against a tier-one nation after beating Scotland 30-29 in Houston.
Scotland made a blistering start with three tries in the opening half, but a poor second allowed USA back into the game.
Joe Taufete’e and Hanco Germishuys crossed after the break – the former for his second try – for the hosts to go in front, but Scotland had a chance to steal the win at the end.
Dougie Fife managed to touch down in the corner but the conversion attempt from Blair Kinghorn sailed wide as USA enjoyed a historic win.
Scotland had made 12 changes for the clash in Houston and coach Gregor Townsend said the squad has to bounce back against Argentina next week.
“We’ve shown even though that was a team put together that there was some good play at times today,” he told a news conference.
“We’ve got a week to select a team that can go to Argentina and win and the difficult thing for the players is that some will get that chance and some won’t.
“We will live with that disappointment that we are feeling just now, but there will be an opportunity to put it right next week.”
